Rats and Relationships

I find it odd how people in life, mainly in relationships, cling to each other like sodden rats clinging to a splinter of wood in the great river that is life; better to cast yourself off, to test yourself against the currents, to grow strong from your trials and tribulations than to be a weak rodent, trying to do naught but survive and convince yourself that you aren't where you are.

Every once in a while you will see those who, as a pair,  have ceased to be rats, have ceased clinging to their splinter of wood and are swimming together, testing themselves as a team against the river, but you also see the people who, have resigned themselves to cling to another out of nothing more than a desire to not be alone, to just settle.

Settling is weakness, rats settle, people swim, so after all of this, there is only one question to ask. Are you a rat or one of the people?
